...In the "Doghouse"

Well my friends, meet Ginger. The newest addition to the Hickman Family. Yes, she is a dog...and for those of you who are aware of my feelings concerning dogs and pets in general...you can stop laughing now. It wasn't my idea :)

We have Sydnie's birthday coming up this week, and so when my sweet parents showed up at my house yesterday claiming they had to drop off an early present for Syd--I wasn't really that suspicious. However, as my thought processes began to run through the possible scenarios, I came to a quick and disbelieving conclusion that one of the only things that possibly couldn't wait to be presented on her actual birthday had to be furry and breathing--with no batteries included...Surprise?!?

As we all made our way into the backyard, my stomach continued to sink, and as we stepped out onto the grass only to find the first of many piles of sweet smelling evidence I immediately knew--someone was in the doghouse! As much as I would like to point the finger at Grandma Wendy (it was HER idea), at the end of the day it was really what my daughter wanted more than anything. And literally, I am now the one in the doghouse I suppose. First of all, for not getting my daughter a dog earlier when I actually had a choice in the matter, and second of all because I now have a furry, barking, running, jumping, tail wagging companion that follows me around all day...but that my kids have fallen in love with. (The reactions were pretty varied...you can see how Don felt just by reading his facial expression in the picture).

So, to our new little Shih Tzu, Ginger, welcome to the family. I'm sure I will soon find that my trip to the doghouse will be one filled with ups and downs--but worth it to see the love and excitement she can bring to the eyes of my children. In the meantime, we will continue to adjust and snicker everytime Sydnie tries to explain to someone what breed of dog Ginger is....and hope that one day she will let Syd and Kade actually catch up to her--she's been running for her life ever since she got here! Poor dog. Happy early birthday to Syd!

Ok the picture of Don is PRICELESS. By far my favorite among the cute and adorable ones of Syd and the dog! Let me know how it goes... my kids are BEGGING me for a dog. Luckily every house in Cali has two.

Goodness! So you made the plunge to a pet. I haven't been able to do that, yet, but I feel like the worst parent ever when my kids beg for one. Congrats! They'll have such fun and the dog is awfully cute.
